St. Michael’s Centre is a faith-based care home serving residents facing complex care challenges and includes Burnaby’s only hospice for end of life care.
Established in July 1981 by the Anglican, Roman Catholic, and United churches, St. Michael’s Centre is a long-standing part of the Burnaby community, proudly offering exceptional care to persons of all backgrounds and faith traditions.
The centre has 128 publicly subsidized long term care beds including 20 single occupancy rooms, 36 double occupancy rooms and nine multiple occupancy rooms.

Room features and personalization | Each room and bed side is equipped with a bed, wardrobe, bed side dresser and privacy curtains. Each room contains a washroom with a sink and toilet. Residents can bring family photos and pictures to hang on the wall by their bed side. Televisions, telephones, radios, favorite blankets and small mementos are also welcomed. |

Security | The residence is equipped with security cameras, a Wanderguard system, keypadded elevators and some keypadded doors. |

Location information | St. Michael’s is located north of the intersection of Sussex Avenue and Rumble Street, on the west side of Sussex Avenue. A bus stop and mailbox are located immediately outside the building’s main entrance, with Metrotown Centre a five minute drive away. |
Additional site features | The home offers a non-denominational chapel, a gift shop, and a hair salon. David Gray Park is situated immediately behind the centre for residents to view and enjoy nature. |

Programs
Social and recreation programs | The therapies department includes recreation staff, rehabilitation assistants, an occupational therapist and a music therapist. The centre is proud to offer a variety of social and recreational activities including baking, gardening, happy hour, a resident choir and year-round bus outings. A number of musicians perform at the centre during the year, reflecting various styles of music. |
Spiritual program | A spiritual health practitioner facilitates a number of non-denominational programs open to residents of all backgrounds. Denomination-specific worship services are regularly held in the home’s chapel. The spiritual health practitioner maintains connections with local houses of worship of various traditions, and organizes individual visits for residents with these leaders as requested. |
Pets | Family members are welcome to bring well-behaved, leashed or caged dogs and cats to visit residents. The centre has a large indoor fish tank and an exterior fish pond. Twice weekly, two dogs visit residents through the St. John’s Ambulance Therapy Dog Program. |

Referral by case manager at a Home and Community Care office is required. To access service call the Home Health Service Line for more information; do not contact the care home directly.
