Updates to Omnicell training requirements.

What’s happening?

The Student Practice Team would like to inform all students and faculty instructors about updates to Omnicell training requirements at Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH), Fraser Canyon Hospital (FCH), and Chilliwack General Hospital (CGH).

  • Omnicell automated medication dispensing cabinets were fully implemented at RCH by May 9, 2017.
  • FCH went live with Omnicell on February 26, 2018, and CGH between April 10, 2018 and July 10, 2018.

*NOTE: Preceptorship students who have already attended an Omnicell Basic Training as an Employed Student Nurse (ESN) do not need to repeat this training. Students who are also Fraser Health employees must chart using their student accounts when completing student placements, as per our Student Practice Education Policy.

Why is this important?

Documentation in Omnicell using the correct tools and resources can optimize students’ and faculty instructors’ placement experiences. This is also important for ensuring that our patients, clients, and residents continue to receive quality health care. For more information, please refer to the Automated Dispensing Cabinet (ADC) Policy, which can be accessed via FH Pulse from a Fraser Health computer when on a Fraser Health site.

How will this impact students and faculty instructors?

All students and faculty instructors must complete the training requirements outlined above a minimum of three weeks prior to the placement start date to receive “write" access to the system. Students and faculty instructors can register for these courses via the LearningHub. Instructions for requesting accounts is located on our Computer Training page. Placing Coordinators must submit these forms to the designated Clinical Nurse Advisors (CNAs) at least 14 days prior to the start date of the practicum.
