This week's high fives go to our amazing people at Royal Columbian Hospital and Surrey Memorial Hospitals.

For Royal Columbian Hospital

I checked into Royal Columbian Hospital for heart bypass surgery. My surgery went very well and the time from then until now, I have had an opportunity to reflect on the service and the professionalism that was afforded to me while I was there. I am sending this note to you to give special commendations for some of the nurses, nurses aids and my doctors. The following people are those individuals that went above and beyond the service which most people would come to expect. In ICU, Meaghan Anderson was very attentive and kind during my most difficult time and when I was back in the ward there were many that were awesome; however Christina Berry, a part-time nurse made an impression on me as she was so prompt, took the time to provide me with information of my medications and the reasons I was taking them and Dean assisted me regularly and made my comfort a priority. Dr. Gunning was my surgeon who I highly recommend and he took the time between surgeries to discuss issues with my family and as soon as my surgery was completed and I was in recovery, he called my wife to give her the news on how successful the surgery was. Dr. Simkus, my cardiologist, for the past 19 years is so very thorough and he was the one that determined I needed heart bypass surgery. I can’t thank these professionals enough.

I wanted to provide feedback, complimenting your staff, both in the Emergency room but also during my stay. I spent a few days there, treated for some cardiac issues.

Particularly Mikaela – a nurse assigned to my bed – was amazing. She was such a good listener, responsive, kind and proactive. She deserves huge accolades from me for her help and support.

Many thanks to all.

For Surrey Memorial Hospital Switchboard operator

I called the operator at Surrey Memorial Hospital and spoke with a lady by the name of Karen.

Not only was her telephone manner polite, but she was extremely helpful in trying to help me track down information.

I wanted to pass along how helpful she was and I am very impressed with her willingness to help out.

Karen went above and beyond and I need to pass along my thanks.
